The Southerner and the City Hangs with DJ Fulano at 77 Kids
Dec 15, 2011

There is nothing better to pick up your mood than some good music. But it takes the right kind of music to do that. For instance, I was having lunch today and realized the restaurant was in the middle of a Celine Dion marathon of some sort. I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. One of her songs is plenty. But listening to two or more of her songs in a row will push a person over the edge or into the path of a city bus – whichever is closer! On the other hand, this afternoon Corbin and I found ourselves in Times Square jamming along with 8-year-old DJ Fulano. The tunes were much better and I’d still be there if it weren’t a school night.

DJ Fulano was mixing up the tunes at 77 Kids by American Eagle in Times Square. I do not recommend Times Square this time of year as it is crazy busy with holiday tourists. But, the event was not to be missed so we ventured down town to check it out.

There is not a 77 Kids in Jonesboro just yet, but you can find their amazingly fashionable looks online. I was impressed with the boy’s selection. They had age appropriate clothing that didn’t look like smaller versions of what Corbin’s Dad wears every day. I’ll never understand why so many designers think it is okay to make young boys look like miniature men!! They’ve got the rest of their lives to wear button down shirts! I was also impressed with the ever so hip DJ Fulano. He was mixing up the tunes and keeping the crowd moving and doing it with the ease of an adult. Keep in mind, he is 8-years-old. He’s got an amazingly accomplished mentor, DJ Cassidy, to guide him along. DJ Cassidy’s website reads like a who’s who in the entertainment business. He’s the preferred DJ to Diddy, Beyonce’, J. Lo and the Black Eyed Peas. And then there was that one time he played for President Obama at his inauguration party. Oh, and Oprah, too, when she opened her Leadership Academy in Africa. DJ Cassidy is the real deal. Although Corbin told me afterwards I was the real DJ because I rock! I love that little boy.

I snapped a photo of Corbin and his friend Jaron with DJ Cassidy. I would have loved to have talked more with DJ Cassidy but I was trying to keep up with Corbin as he zig zagged through the store checking out all of the cool clothing, accessories and toys. I would have had a difficult time explaining to Mark how I lost his son in a Times Square store because I was getting the scoop on Obama’s big party from an A-list DJ!!! Check out his website at www.djcassidy.com and let me know what you think, okay?

Corbin picked up a cool hat and a great vintage New Orleans Saint tee that he is planning on wearing to school in the morning. You can thank the Moms and the City for tipping us off to the cool looks at 77 Kids and to the sounds of DJ Fulano and DJ Cassidy.
