Are you a Mom looking for a funny book to read? Then I have a suggestion for you; Sh*tty Mom: The Parenting Guide For The Rest Of Us. The book, written by four mothers, is laugh out loud funny. With chapters like ‘Organized Sports Might Be Great For The Kids, But They Suck For You’ to ‘How To Hand Off A Newborn Who Just Filled A Diaper’, this book is filled with funny story and situations that you will probably relate to. Heck, you may even have your own story of leaving your kid in the car to dash into Godsey’s to grab your take home dinner. Ring a bell? Sound familiar? It does to me!

My Mom was in for a visit last week. It was Mom’s first visit since we moved to New York City. So I was thrilled to get to bring her to the Sh*tty Mom book party. Luckily, the event was in the neighborhood so we didn’t have to travel too far. It was within walking distance, but I didn’t want to wear out my Mom with all of the walking we had done, so we hopped in a cab for the short commute.

The lively event was fun and the food was delicious. We munched on bite size bits of waffles and chicken among other things and sipped champagne and prosecco. Hoda Kotb of the Today Show stopped by to congratulate the authors who had just learned their book had made the New York Times Best Seller list. ABC News’ Amy Robach along with husband and Melrose Place heart throb Andrew Shue were also at the party to throw there support behind the Sh*tty Mom authors Laurie Kilmartin, Karen Moline, Alicia Ybarbo and Mary Ann Zoellner.

I introduced my Mom to Mary Ann, telling her my Mom was not a "Sh*tty Mom" but rather much more a super mom when I was growing up. Mary Ann picked up on my accent and asked where I was from. I told her I grew up in Arkansas and she told me she was from Tulsa, Oklahoma.

“We are the same people," she said.

We talked about our common bond of growing up below the Mason Dixon line. It makes a difference that just about everyone can see and most of the time hear!

It was great looking through the book with Mom and laughing about the sh*tty things we have both done as mothers. Another mother chimed in and said she had left her kids in the car before to run into a 7-Eleven. She went on to add that it was 20 some years ago before you really had to worry about someone stealing your car or your child! I told Mom I remembered being left in the car while she ran into the grocery store and never once felt scared! Oh, how times have changed.
