NEA Baptist Charitable Foundation Center for Healthy Children is now enrolling for My Summer Success. The summer camp’s focus is to help every child learn how to be a healthier version of themselves therefore, both teen and children programs will be open with no body mass index (BMI) requirement.

The center will offer three 2-week sessions, Monday through Friday, throughout the summer with morning options from 8:00 – 11:30 and afternoon options from 1:00 – 4:30.  The first session is June 16 through June 27.  The morning option of the first session is for children ages 8-12 and the afternoon will be for teens ages 13-17.

The second session is July 7 through July 18, with the morning option for teens ages 13-17 and the afternoon option for children ages 8-12.  The third session is July 2 through August 1 with both morning and afternoon options available for children ages 8-12.  Center for Healthy Children is located inside NEA Baptist Clinic Wellness Center at 2617 Phillips Drive.

“The goal of My Summer Success”, says Wellness Program Manager Jennifer Martinez, ”is to teach children the importance of a well-balanced diet and exercise.  They learn that breaking a sweat can be fun and eating healthy foods can taste good.”

The program will introduced participants to different team sports and various physical activities, including the opportunity to swim twice per week.

The campers will engage in hands-on nutrition lessons throughout the week.  The lessons will cover topics such as being food conscious through label reading, portion control, eating on the go, and more. Daily snacks will be offered that are healthy, fun to make and taste good.

In addition, the center offers a fitness room that is equipped with a rock-climbing wall, ellipticals, Wii games and stationary bicycles that will be utilized during free play.

NEA Baptist Charitable Foundation Center for Healthy Children was created to teach, motivate and guide overweight children and their families to build a solid foundation of proper nutrition and regular exercise for a healthy lifestyle.  This program, along with the other programs offered through NEA Baptist Charitable Foundation, is offered to the community free of charge.
