Job Description Job Title:                    Nurse, ASN - BSN Department:              Internal MedicineSalary Level:Reports To:                Assistant Administrator/Clinical Operations 

SUMMARY   Provides prescribed medical treatment ordered by the physician, places in exam room obtaining vital signs and chief complaint, assists physicians and nurses as required.  Serves as a mediator between physician and patient.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

 Maintains an efficient and effective workflow for the physicians. Assists all new patients and obtains required information and studies needed by the attending physician. Obtains weight, blood pressure, chief complaint, and verifies patient’s current medication and dosage on office patients. Prints prescriptions that need refilled. Escorts patients to exam rooms and prepares patients for physician examination. Observes patient and reports adverse reactions to medication or treatment to medical personnel in charge. Administers specified medication in a safe manner. Collects samples, such as urine, blood, and sputum from patients for testing and performs routine laboratory tests on urine samples if required. Phones or mails results of lab work or diagnostic test results to patients. Answers all phone messages in a timely and efficient manner.  Addresses all messages before leaving at the end of the workday. Educates patients as needed. Writes admission orders, schedules tests and appointments, and refers patients as necessary. Prepares the patient chart prior to the scheduled appointment.  Obtains any procedure or test report performed since the last patient appointment. Assists in other departments as necessary. Performs ECG, CXR, pulse ox, holters, treadmills and PFTs when ordered.
Reviews any notes or letters from other physicians.
 Enters pertinent information into logician record. Fills out CME forms for medical equipment and supplies. Reviews and fills out any other paperwork accordingly.Maintains patient confidentiality. QUALIFICATIONS   To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE   Associate’s degree from required from an accredited two-year college or university.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES   Keyboarding skills required.  Windows skills preferred.  Ability to speak and hear clearly and effectively over the telephone.
