SUMMARY   Assists nurses in providing medical care ordered by the physician, places patient in exam room obtaining vital signs and chief complaint, assists physicians and nurses as required.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

 Maintains an efficient and effective workflow for the physicians. Obtains required information and studies needed by the attending physician. Obtains weight, blood pressure, chief complaint, and verifies patient’s current medication and dosage on office patients. Escorts patients to exam rooms and prepares patient for physician examination. Observes patient and reports adverse reactions to medication or treatment to medical personnel in charge. Collects samples, such as urine, blood, and sputum from patients for testing and performs routine laboratory tests on urine samples if required. Mails results of lab work or diagnostic test results to each patient. Instructs patients as needed. Prepares the patient chart prior to the scheduled appointment. Obtains any procedure or test report performed since the last patient appointment. Schedules patient tests/appointments as ordered by physician. Assists other departments as necessary. Performs ECG, CXR, pulse ox, holters, and PFTs when ordered. Cleans instruments as needed. Maintain patient confidentiality.QUALIFICATIONS   To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE   High school diploma or GED, or one to three months related experience.

 LANGUAGE SKILLS   Ability to read and interpret documents such as physician notes, medical test reports, and patient instructions.  Ability to speak effectively to patients and other health care workers. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS   Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. REASONING ABILITY   Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES   Keyboarding skills required.  Must be familiar with medical terminology.  Windows skills preferred.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS   CPR certification preferred.  Nurse’s aide certificate preferred.
