Candidate pool grows to 20
Oct 25, 2010
With one new application last week, the pool of candidates for president of Arkansas State University has grown to 20 people.

The latest applicant is:

-- Dr. James K. Nelson Jr. of Tyler, Tex., dean of Engineering and Computer Science and Brazzel Professor of Engineering, University of Texas at Tyler.

A second individual, Dr. Joe M. King of the University of New Orleans, sent application materials earlier in the week, but withdrew from consideration today.

The next meeting of the Presidential Search Advisory Committee will be Thursday, Oct. 28, beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the ASU System Office, 2004 East Nettleton Ave. in Jonesboro.  At that time, the committee will review applications received since the last meeting and decide which candidates to suggest to the Board of Trustees for interviews.

Mrs. Florine Tousant Milligan, chair of the Presidential Search Advisory Committee, has announced that the Board of Trustees will meet the next day, Friday, Oct. 29, at 12:30 p.m., also at the System Office, to consider the committee’s comments and to review all applications, then select which candidates to invite for interviews.  She expects the Board to interview candidates on Monday and/or Tuesday, Nov. 8 and 9.

Each candidate who comes for an interview will first publicly address the Presidential Search Advisory Committee and respond to questions from committee members.  Afterward, the Board of Trustees will interview each candidate in executive session.

Dr. Robert L. Potts, who came to ASU-Jonesboro as chancellor in November 2006, was selected by the Board to serve as interim president beginning on July 1, following the resignation of Dr. Les Wyatt, who had served as president for 15 years.

Information on nominating a qualified individual or submitting an application, along with a description of the ASU System and the position announcement, is available on the Arkansas State University Presidential Search website, http://presidentialsearch.asusystem.edu.
