Red, White and Blue Near You
Jun 28, 2011

The fourth is rolling around pretty quick and for those of you out there looking for a fun-filled day of celebration, there are a few places worth checking out whether you want to stay in Jonesboro or take a mini roadtrip.

Freedom Fest is a great display for your Fourth of July entertainment and is sponsored by KAIT and Jonesboro Radio Group. This display is free and open to the public, and it features the biggest display in Jonesboro. The festivities start at 9:30 Monday night at the District Fairgrounds.

Another event to check out is the 4th in the Forest Music Festival, which will be held at Craighead Forest Park on Monday and is sponsored by 101.7 KISS FM and Centeal Chevrolet-Cadillac. This is an all day event hosting headliners Steve Azar and Buddy Jewell. This year will feature a full carnival with games and rides for the whole family. The Mid South’s only 3-D fireworks display will be that evening, so be sure to bring chairs and blankets and get a good seat! Oh, and don’t forget to bring plenty of bug spray.

If you’re looking for a quick trip somewhere for some fun, Piggott is a little over an hour away and holds an event they call their Fourth of July Picnic. This features a day of pageants, parade and of course fireworks. With food, rides and games, there is something fun for everyone.

Though I do love fireworks, I will definitely be spending my afternoon watching my favorite patriotic musical on the fourth. If you haven’t seen it, 1776 is definitely one worth looking into. Look for it on Turner Classic Movies or Netflix and enjoy.

Whatever you decide to do this fourth, have fun and be responsible. Happy Fourth, everyone!
