The End of an Era - The 2011 Northeast Arkansas District Fair and Rodeo I was lucky enough to be invited to a media appreciation luncheon today that marked the kick-off of the 2011 Northeast Arkansas District Fair and Rodeo. In case you have not heard, the rodeo will be held from September 15-17 at the ASU Convocation Center, and the fair itself will be held from September 19-24. The big question that everyone seems to be asking this year is, "Where will the fair be?" The confusion is understandable; earlier this year, an announcement was made that the fairgrounds would be moved to the Farville Curve. But, the board confirmed today that the fair would not be moved to the future fairgrounds until the 2012 fair. In fact, the 2011 fair promises to be particularly nostalgic for many locals, especially those who have been coming to the Northeast Arkansas District fair at 2731 E. Highland Drive since 1957. For many, it will be the end of an era. According to Fair Manager Jerry W. Reece, the last fair on the current fairgrounds will be "as good, bigger and better that it has ever been." With a week of activities that includes musical performances by David Nail, The Pinney Creek Boys, Josh Thompson, The Martins and New Beginning Quartet, a talent show, a petting zoo, rides, great food, crafts, exhibits and a pageant, the Northeast Arkansas District Fair promises to be fun for the entire family. Here are a few things that will be different this year: *There will be no Demolition Derby or Lawnmower Races. After everyone finished a tasty lunch of Demo's BBQ, I left the fairgrounds with two CDs in hand; I cannot wait to attend my first-ever Northeast Arkansas District Fair next month.
