This Year's DSO's Symphony Gala Goes Celtic
Oct 12, 2011

On Saturday, Oct. 22 at 6 p.m., the Delta Symphony Orchestra Guild will present the 2011 Symphony Gala at the Cooper Alumni Center on the Arkansas State University. The theme of this year's event is "Celtic Rhapsody." Guest will be greeted by bagpipes upon arrival and enjoy dinner music by harpist Pat Qualls and vocalist Julia Lansford, as well as dance music by The Townsmen and a buffet of heavy hors d'oeuvres. The 10th-annual event will feature live and silent auctions featuring a trip to Ireland, a player grand piano and many more great items.

This year, the Delta Symphony Orchestra Guild will honor Dr. Bill and Ruth Keisker of Jonesboro for their outstanding support of the Delta Symphony for many years. Dr. Keisker has served on the Delta Symphony Board of Directors and plays violin in the Orchestra. He has performed with the Symphony for more than 27 years, since December of 1984. Dr. Keisker has recently served as Secretary of the Delta Symphony Board of Directors.

"The Keiskers are always supportive of anything the Symphony is doing," said Christy McKeel, executive director. "Dr. Kesiker has been instrumental in helping the Delta Symphony with fundraising and locating new grants for which to apply. They are a great asset to the DSO."

The funds raised at the 2011 gala will help support the Symphony and expand its educational programs.

"This is also our fourth year for our Symphony Debs Program, and it is working out wonderfully," said McKeel.

Young ladies in grades 10-12 at Jonesboro, Nettleton, Brookland, Valley View, Westside, Paragould, Greene County Tech, Rector, Manila and Newport High Schools have been able to apply for this Delta Symphony Orchestra auxiliary service organization. The Symphony Debs will help with our Symphony Gala in various ways, as well as serve as ushers and greeters at our concerts. The Symphony Debs will be recognized at our Symphony Gala Event on October 22. The Symphony Debs Program is co-chaired by Mrs. Laura Bettis and Mrs. Nancy Benton of Jonesboro, AR. The Symphony Debs are sponsored by Clarks Bridal & Formal, Loretta's Catering and Serendipity Lane.

The following young ladies have been selected to serve as Symphony Debs: Miss Jenni Hannah, Miss Maria Bowden, Miss Emma Watkins, Miss Olivia Metz, Miss Windom Paul, Miss Chandler Yates and Miss Laura Wolfe from Jonesboro High School; Miss Mariana Mobley, Miss Natalie Smith, and Miss Maggie Benton from Valley View High School; Miss Emma Jumper, and Miss Mallory Grimes from Brookland High School; Miss Kaitlin Rickman from Westside High School; Miss Sylvia Hardin and Miss Anna Rougeau from Nettleton High School; Miss Francesca Branch from Paragould High School; and Miss Catherine Mason from Manila High School.

The Delta Symphony Gala will be held at the Cooper Alumni Center on Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. Tickets are $75 per person and tables of eight are available for $600. Tickets can be purchased from any Symphony Guild member or by calling (870) 761-2747. Co-sponsors for the Gala include Jonesboro Radio Group, Amro Music and KAIT.
