Southerner and the City: Gaga Takes Over Barney's for Christmas
Dec 01, 2011

The window displays at Christmas time in New York City are always over the top. I am always amazed at the amount of creativity that is poured into each one. This year is no exception either. This morning I walked over to Barney’s to check out their windows that are sure to please all of the little monsters. “Monster’s you say?” Yes, this year Lady GaGa has taken over the 5th floor of the Madison Avenue Store along with the windows, too.

Gaga fans, or monsters as she calls them, are going to be ga ga over Gaga this holiday season. Gaga along with stylist Nicola Formichetti transformed the windows and the fifth floor of the flagship store on Madison Avenue. The 5500-square-foot area was as you might suspect over the top. The window displays did not disappoint either. From Gaga’s Boudoir, Gaga’s Crystal Cove to Gaga’s Machine, the windows are something to see. And for the extra added touch, her music is piped through the sound system for your listening enjoyment as you stand along Madison.

I checked out the selection of merchandise. It ranges from bedazzled press-on nails to really wacked out false eye lashes. There was a great selection of headbands with hair bows attached and even stiletto holiday stockings! There is something for any Gaga fan no matter what your age. You can see most of the items for sale on Barney’s website. Lady Gaga is donating 25% of the proceeds from all sales to her anti-bullying foundation, Born This Way.

I found the displays and the retail space to be more interesting that anything for sale. You can check out the photos I snapped and see for yourself.

If you can’t make it to Gaga’s workshop, I do have a local recommendation for some holiday inspiration and that is The Full Sun. I stopped by while I was in Jonesboro over Thanksgiving. The trees that Lynn and Johnnie have each year are really a master piece of creativity. This year’s snowman and red feathered lady are two of my favorites. They are more art than tree which I think is a great twist on a long time tradition.
