Happy Valentine's Day from Little Hands
Feb 14, 2012

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! Sorry for the silence last week. I wasn't able to blog, and even if I could have, the only crafting or baking that went on was one batch of homemade granola bars (which I'll share that recipe later).

Before I had children, I was not a fan of Valentine's Day. I have never been a very sappy person, so an entire day devoted to feelings just freaked me out. It got a little better with marriage when it could be centered around a stable, never changing relationship, but it got fun after my girls were here. A whole day devoted to hearts and flowers and telling these little ones how much I love them?! I'll take it! We decorated with felt hearts I sewed in a garland or stuffed and hung throughout our home. London and Story woke up this morning to heart shaped pancakes that we had dyed pink with strawberry jam, sliced strawberries, and strawberry milk. Lunch and snack will probably be a simple food that cuts reshaped with my heart cookie cutters. Dinner tonight? Heart shaped pizza, of course! However, my favorite is dessert. I'm making a Valentine's Day trifle with chocolate cake, strawberry cake, vanilla pudding, whipped cream, and topped with shaved chocolate and strawberries! Luckily, we have a Bible study that meets in our home on Tuesday nights, so we have plenty to share such a big dessert with. I foresee lots of painting hearts and construction paper Valentine's crafts. It's so easy to make days special for kids, because they never have high expectations. Why not go a little extra mile and find a pink or red dinner or dessert? Get them a little gift? Our girls each got a large container of bubbles for this summer, and when Daddy gets home from work, he'll bring them each a Valentine's balloon. What do you do for Valentine's for your kids? Anyone have any great and easy ideas for Valentine's lunch and snack? I may find myself in need of new ideas!

Until next time,
Heather
