June 21, 2012 – (Jonesboro, AR) - Out of the Dark Inc. will hold its first Out of the Dark Student Recognition Dinner on Monday, June 25th, to announce the 2012 recipient of the Mary Mooney Memorial Scholarship Award and to recognize several Out of the Dark Students who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in their schools in terms of leadership and drug prevention participation through their Out of the Dark School Chapters. The dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be held at the conference room at the Western Sizzlin Steak House, 2405 E Highland Dr., Jonesboro, AR 72401.

The 2012 nominees for the Mary Mooney Memorial Scholarship Award are:

Austin Ray Sandy - Valley View High School

Heather R. Southe - Valley View High School

Sabrah L. Futrell - Westside High School

Taylor Rhiannon Boling - Valley View High School

Tre’ E. Crume - Jonesboro High School

Virginia Bradsher - Valley View High School

The Mary Mooney Memorial Scholarship Award is the highest honor given by the organization to a graduating student for their outstanding contributions to their school and community in fighting chemical addiction. The scholarship was established in 2011 through private donations in the name of Mary Mooney who was a former teacher at Jonesboro High School and was the mother of Out of the Dark founder, Skip Mooney, Jr.

Students are nominated by their Out of the Dark School Chapter and the finalists are determined by the Out of the Dark Board of Directors. The Out of the Dark School Chapter program was established in 2009 and now involves hundreds of students throughout every school district in Craighead County, Arkansas.
