The Rehabilitation Services Department offers physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy services to its patients. Here the staff aims to restore patients to an independent functioning level, reduce pain and improve their quality of life as they recover or adjust to their condition. Rehabilitative efforts are coordinated with any other medical or surgical care the patient is currently receiving. It is the goal of this department to allow the patient to take an active, informed role in the management of his or her care.

The Rehab Services clinics have the capability of meeting a wide variety of patient needs through all therapy disciplines (Physical, Occupational and Speech). Through careful evaluation and individual treatment programs, our therapists assist patients in returning to their normal life-style. Our outpatient clinics are located at:

Acute Care Rehab Services

Purpose

  • The inpatient Rehab Services Department at St. Bernards consists of all therapy disciplines (Physical, Occupational and Speech) working together in an effort to return patients to normal and productive lives.

 

Therapy

  • Through careful evaluation and individualized treatment programs, our therapists can treat existing problems and provide preventive health care tips for people with a wide variety of needs.
  • Our therapy team manages diagnoses including:
    • Cardiac
    • Pulmonary
    • Stroke
    • Orthopedic injuries
    • Neurological problems
    • Other health problems that interfere with the patient's ability to function in daily life

 

Location

  • The department is located on the ground floor of the main hospital and is operated 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week.

 

Hand and Occupational Therapy

Purpose

  • The Hand Therapy program offers the most current technology for the evaluation and rehabilitation of the hand-injured patient.

 

Therapy

  • Hand Therapists work closely with referring physicians to maximize rehabilitation potential.
  • Through purposeful activity, occupational therapists assist patients in maximizing their independence and ability to return to a productive and satisfying lifestyle.

 

Patients

  • Program benefits patients suffering from a variety of conditions including:
    • Neurological problems
    • Orthopedic injuries
    • Arthritis
    • Open wounds
    • Burns

 

Outpatient Physical Therapy

Purpose

  • The Outpatient Physical Therapy and Sports Rehabilitation Department offers state-of-the-art equipment and individualized treatment programs for patients with orthopedic and neurological diagnoses.

 

Equipment

  • Isokinetic testing and training equipment, aquatic therapy and surface EMG are used routinely with orthopedic and sports related injuries.

 

Programs

  • The department also offers programs for patients with vestibular problems utilizing the Balance Master for evaluation and treatment.
  • Pelvic floor dysfunction and treatment of incontinence are also provided by the facility.

 

Goal

  • Our physical therapists work together with the physician and the patient to restore optimal function to educate and to prevent re-injury.

 

Speech Pathology

Services Available

  • A licensed and certified speech pathologist offers evaluation and treatment of deficits in the following areas:
    • Articulation
    • Expressive language
  • Receptive language
    • Fluency
  • Voice
  • Swallowing

 

Program and Availability

  • Services are available to patients who exhibit communication and/or swallowing deficits secondary to illness, injury or developmental delay.
  • An individual therapy program is developed for each patient to maximize the potential for complete rehabilitation.
