There are many advantages to partnerships in the community, especially in the area of community awareness. As a state governmental entity that is legislatively mandated to the promote the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. throughout the state of Arkansas, the state’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission, with the assistance of the Arkansas Department of Human Services, has implemented a program. These programs, known as “Nonviolence Youth Summits,” are designed to encourage youth ages 10 to 18 to engage in positive leadership development and roles within their communities. 

The Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission and the Arkansas Department of Human Services will host Nonviolence Youth Summit XVI: Remember Hoxie on Monday, February 22, 2016 from 8:00 AM-2:00 PM at Arkansas State University, Reng Student Union, Centennial Hall, 101 North Caraway Road, Jonesboro, Arkansas 72401. The confirmed keynote speaker will be Ethel Tompkins, the first African-American to graduate from Hoxie Public Schools. *Free Event *Free Lunch to all registered attendees.
