Alpha Omicron Pi Benefit Fundraiser
From: Feb 17th, 2011 @ 12:00 am To: Feb 22nd, 2011 @ 12:00 am | < Previous Page |
ASU's Alpha Omicron Pi sorority is selling plates of Strawberry's Barbecue for $15 each to raise funds for Katie Nelson, a 16-year-old Westside Student. The plates include a pork steak, scalloped potatoes, slaw and roll.
Katie was diagnosed last fall with arteriovenous malformation (AVM), an abnormal and dangerous collection of blood vessels in the brain that is very susceptible to hemorrhaging. Doctors at LeBonheur decided to do 20 shots of radiation in December which successfully reduced the mass. It will take about a year and a half for the mass to dies, and until then, the family has to do everything possible to keep the bleeding from starting again. Katie's father had a stroke last summer and was laid off from work, so the family has n health insurance - meaning they have been responsible for the medical bills out of pocket.
Plates will be available for pickup on Feb. 24 from 4-6 p.m. at the ASU Cooper Alumni Center.
