Astronomy: It’s A Blast exhibit teaches about astronomy and space in a new way Jonesboro, AR (October 15th, 2011) – Do comets have tails? How far is it to space? Investigate the science behind rockets and try your hand at landing a space shuttle! Astronomy: It’s A Blast! will be in Jonesboro at the Arkansas State University Museum from October 2011 to February 2012. The exhibit is making its way across the state thanks to the Arkansas Discovery Network, a network of seven museums and learning centers funded by the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation. Astronomy: It’s A Blast! answers these questions and tackles such hard-to-grasp concepts as celestial navigation, black holes, and rocket propulsion. You’ll have a blast at this exhibit learning the difference between the myths and realities of space science. Astronomy: It’s A Blast!, part of the Arkansas Museum Road Trip collection, was developed by the Texarkana Museums System in cooperation with the Arkansas Discovery Network. ASU Museum created Exploring the Frontier which opened here in Jonesboro in October 2009 and is now being hosted at the Mid-American Science Museum, Hot Springs. Each Network partner developed a unique Arkansas Museum Road Trip exhibit focusing on topics related to the mission and vision of each facility. Designed for visitors of all ages, these exhibits allow visitors to interact with hands-on activities not found in a classroom setting. In 2009, the Arkansas Museum Road Trip started touring at its “home museum” before traveling the state with planned stops at every Network partner. For a list of all the exhibits and the tour schedule, visit www.arkansasdiscoverynetwork.org/RoadTrip.
