ASU 2011 Professional in Residence Speaker for Black History Month

JONESBORO - Yvette Whiteside, a host with radio station WDIA-AM in Memphis, Tenn., will open the 2011 Professional in Residence speaker series for the Radio-Television Department at Arkansas State University. Whiteside will speak to R-TV students Monday and Tuesday, February 14-15, as part of Black History month activities.
Whiteside is a 2005 graduate of ASU with a radio-television degree. She has worked successfully in both radio and television during her career, with stopsat KAIT-TV, KISS- FM in Jonesboro and K97- FM in Memphis. She is currently themorning drive show host for WDIA- AM 1070.
The station takes its community service responsibilities seriously as evidenced by Whiteside's involvement in many community causes. Whiteside has served as emcee for ASU's Strong Turner Program, worked with the Shelby county division of corrections eighth annual volunteer banquet of Unsung Heroes, and the 2010 Millington Flood Victim Drive.
She was honored as a community role model at the 18th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Award.Whiteside has also appeared in the movie "N-secure" which was filmed in Memphis. WDIA is owned by the Clear Channel Radio Corporation.
Whiteside is a partof the "Fun Morning Show" with the Legendary Bobby Ojay. They play the best music from the 60's, 70's and 80's and current rhythm and blues music. WDIA programming can also be heard on high definition radio at FM 101.1-2.
WDIA is the first radio station in America programmed by African Americans.WDIA went on the air in June 1947 from studios on Union Avenue in Memphis andis recognized as the first station to provide all-black programming. Its powerfulsignal reaches down into the Mississippi Delta and is heard from the MissouriBootheel to the Gulf Coast states.
