Do you like mysteries?
If you answered “yes”, this camp might be for you! We are looking for 120 students in grades 7—10 who are interested in science and would enjoy learning about science by using forensic techniques to solve a crime!
ASU CSI Camp is an experience where students will engage in inquiry-based activities to solve the cases. Students will work in small groups and learn different scientific techniques. Most of the time will be spent in the laboratory, analyzing “evidence” from different “crimes”. Science teachers and University Faculty will be the instructors. This is a day camp (non-residential)
Date: June 19-20, 2012 (Students)
Time: 9am—5pm each day
Location: ASU Jonesboro, Lab Sciences Building
Cost: Free!!
This is a grant funded camp, and lunch and snacks will be included on both days. Students will even receive approximately $20 for completing activities
Description of Program:
One hundred and twenty students (grades 7 -10) will be selected to participate in a two day workshop taught by the teacher participants. Meals will be provided for students.
Activities:
Teachers and students will be drawn into a make-believe murder mystery. Can they assemble the evidence to solve the case? In addition to basic forensic techniques, investigations will include:
1. Forensic soil analysis
2. Forensic use of GIS/GPS technology.
3. The use of robotics in forensics
4. Microbial analysis
5. DNA analysis of crime scene evidence using electrophoresis
