ASU - Jonesboro:  ASU to host regional math contest; 400 students to take math test
on campus
         JONESBORO - More than 400 high school students are expected to be on the 
Arkansas State University campus in Jonesboro Saturday, March 5, to take part in the 
2011 Arkansas Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ACTM) Regional Contest.
        Participating students will compete in six contests-Algebra I, Algebra II,
Geometry, Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus, Calculus and Statistics. A $2 registration fee
will be collected the day of the test. 
        The contest schedule gets underway at 9-10 a.m. with on-site sign-in and
registration. Students then report to assigned rooms and receive instructions from
9:45-10 a.m.; exam time is 10-11 a.m. with grading time following from 11 a.m.-noon. 
An awards ceremony will be held at noon in the Lab Science East Building, Room 219 
on the ASU-Jonesboro campus.
        The top three place finishers from every testing region in each exam area will be
invited to the state contest that will be held Saturday, April 30, at the University of 
Central Arkansas in Conway. In addition, the state contest director has the option of 
inviting additional places. Trophies will be awarded to first, second and third place 
finishers for each exam with scholarship opportunities for first, second and third-place 
finishers in Algebra II, Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and Statistics.
        The Arkansas Council of Teachers of Mathematics is a professional organization 
that supports the teaching of mathematics. ACTM conducts annual regional and state
mathematics contests which provide an opportunity for high school students to
compete academically.
