Bluegrass Monday: McReynolds Tradition

Apr 25th, 2011 @ 7:00 pm < Previous Page

The McReynolds Tradition is comprised of Luke McKnight , Amanda and Garrett McReynolds - all grandchildren of Jesse McReynolds, long-time member of the Grand Ole Opry, multiple Grammy Award nominee, and inductee of the International Bluegrass Music Association Hall of Honor.

They have a great family heritage and tradition. Jesse is one-half of the legendary, Jim and Jesse, who joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1964. Not many Bluegrass groups have been on major record labels, but Jimand Jesse held recording contracts with Capital Records, Columbia Records/ Epic Records, and were the first group to be signed to the Opryland USA label. Some of their releases were ranked in the top 100 in the country, with their Epic release of “Diesel on my Tail” charting at number 20.

They had a weekly syndicated television show, and have made guest appearances on national TV shows such as “Opry Live”, the 60th anniversary of the Grand Ole Opry, the “Tommy Hunter Show” on CBC Canada,"Hee Haw”, and “Prime Time Country”. Jim, Jesse’s older brother, passed away several years ago, but Jesse continues to perform. In March of 2009, he celebrated 45 years as a member of the world-famous Grand Ole Opry. Luke, Amanda, and Garrett perform regularly with Jesse on the Grand Ole Opry, sharing the stage with some of the top names in country music, and at bluegrass festivals and concerts in the US and Canada in venues with audiences ranging from 1000 to 150,000.They have recorded one CD with Jesse, “Family Harmony”, are currently recording a project of their own, and recently completed filming a pilot for a proposed network television show.

Now in its 8th year, the Bluegrass Monday concert series has brought musicians from across the country to perform as a way to promote KASU's broadcast of this style of music.
