Heart ECHO Screens

Jul 20th, 2013 @ 12:00 am < Previous Page

Advanced Ultra Sound is teaming with the Garrett Uekman Foundation, the Living 4Burke Foundation and Joey Perry Martial Arts Academy on Saturday, July 20, to offer low-cost heart ECHO screens for young people and athletes in Northeast Arkansas.

Advanced Ultra Sound is the ONLY group in the state offering these screens for young people without having to go through a cardiology clinic, or long prescreening process.
Each year, young athletes around the country die suddenly, during practice or games, for no apparent reason.  The cause of death in these individuals is almost always Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy (HCOM). This is the abnormal growth of muscle fiber in the heart making it more difficult for the heart to pump blood. It's a genetic disorder that can cause sudden death in otherwise healthy young people.  Unfortunately, HCOM is very difficult to pick up  in routine physical exams, such as the ones that are offered for free each spring at ASU. Known as the "silent killer," the symptoms of HCOM generally occur during exertion. Many times, the first symptom is often sudden death due to severe arrhythmias or fatal rhythms.  This is why early detection of HCOM is so critical.
An enlarged heart (or HCOM) can be accurately detected by way of a simple ultrasound procedure known as an Echocardiogram.  My company is launching a new mobile screening service, geared towards detecting the presence of HCOM in athletes. The "Heart ECHO" is a non-invasive test using sound waves to produce an image of the heart. It is painless, highly accurate and generally completed within 20 minutes.
