Jonesboro to Memphis St. Jude Run
May 17th, 2014 @ 5:00 am | < Previous Page |
This event will be modeled after the “Memphis to Peoria” St. Jude runs. The Memphis to Peoria run began 1982. It is a relay style run with the sole intention of raising money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. With over 29 different cities participating the St. Jude Runs have raised over 28 million dollars. Jonesboro has been chosen as the 1st city in Arkansas to participate.
The ideal participant is anyone from a serious long distance runner to a not-so-serious casual jogger who runs a few miles a week just to keep in shape. Think Saturday group run as opposed to a competitive timed event. Safety is the #1 priority while having a good time and raising money for a great cause. Teams will consist of 8-10 runners per team. Each runner will run 2-3 legs during the run, each leg will be between 3 & 6 miles in length.
There will be no cost to runners to participate. Each runner is asked to raise a minimum of $500 in pledges or donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Every penny raised by runners will go directly to St. Jude.
Starting time has not yet been determined. We will begin sometime before sunrise on Saturday morning May 17th and run all day. The run will conclude with all participants running the final leg from the Pyramid to the St. Jude campus.
