Local Gynecologic Oncologist to Present at Teal Talk Luncheon

NEA Baptist Clinic and First Security Bank present the Teal Talk luncheon, raising awareness of ovarian cancer - which is also represented by the color teal. Christopher Bryant, MD, gynecologic oncologist at NEA Baptist Clinic, will discuss ovarian cancer while guests enjoy a free lunch from the First Security Teal Grill. The event is free and open to the public, although only 200 tickets are available and required for entry.

The Teal Talk luncheon will be September 26, 2012 from 11:30 am – 1 pm at Southwest Church of Christ Better Life Center. Dr. Bryant will discuss the importance of ovarian cancer awareness, facts, symptoms, risk factors and treatment.

Christopher Bryant, MD, gynecologic oncologist, joined NEA Baptist Clinic June 1, 2012, bringing a new specialty to NEA Baptist and the community of northeast Arkansas. Dr. Bryant sees patients who have been diagnosed with cancer of a female gynecologic nature, such as ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, cervical cancer, vulvar cancer, and vaginal cancer. Patients who previously traveled to Little Rock or out of state for treatment and follow up appointments can now be seen locally with Dr. Bryant. His office is located at 311 E Matthews in Jonesboro, AR and can be reached at 870-935-4150.

According to the American Cancer Society, there are about 22,280 new cases of ovarian cancer and about 15,500 deaths from ovarian cancer each year. The awareness about ovarian cancer, including symptoms and risk factors, is crucial. Because ovarian cancer is one of the hardest to detect in the early stages, only 19% of ovarian cancer cases are diagnosed before the cancer spreads to other areas of the body. It ranks fifth in the cause of cancer death in women.
