NEA Baptist Ride for Hope

Oct 22nd, 2011 @ 8:00 am < Previous Page

NEA Baptist launches Ride For Hope

Ride For Hope is a cycling event benefiting Hope Circle and Livestrong. Both organizations provide support to persons and their families affected by terminal illness and cancer.

The Ride For Hope was inspired by NEA Baptist patient, Gary Peeler. Peeler has been battling cancer for the past three years.

“There is no period at the end of the ‘cancer sentence’ and I realized how important it is to appreciate the present,” Peeler said. “I wanted to do something positive with my time and create a lasting benefit for those with cancer in my community. The Baptist health system saved my life and I am honored to have NEA Baptist help me make this vision a reality.”

The ride will take place on Oct. 22 at 8 a.m. starting at NEA Baptist Women’s Clinic, 3104 Apache Drive. This event consists of two rides. One is a three-mile family ride with a water stop halfway. The other ride is an out and back challenge course of either 25 or 50 miles journeying down the Crowley’s Ridge Scenic Byway on Arkansas Highway 163. The 25-mile ride is flat with a few rolling hills. The 50-mile ride is a combination of flats and hills turning around at Lake Poinsett State Park.

Registration is open online at www.rideforhope.racesonline.com. Online registration for the event is open through midnight of Thursday, October 20th.  Participants can also choose to register the morning of the event at the NEA Baptist Women’s Clinic. Registration costs start at $20 for the family ride or $40 for either of the challenge rides. For more information, contact Ride For Hope coordinator, Robbie Johnson, at (870) 934-5117.

As part of NEA Baptist Clinic's expanded commitment to the community, NEA Baptist Charitable Foundation was formed. The Charitable Foundation has a mission to help change lives through the programs and services it supports in Northeast Arkansas. HopeCircle, a division of the Charitable Foundation, is a comprehensive supportive care program, which expands the compassionate care already being provided in this region. Programs are designed to meet the needs of anyone diagnosed and LIVING with a catastrophic illness. This includes not only the person who is diagnosed, but also those who love the person and are experiencing the illness along with them.
