Observe, Document, Experiment and Make with Visual Artist Heather Deyling

In Heather Deyling’s current body of work, colorful organic shapes reference growth in the landscape, particularly plant species that cling to buildings and trees. Initially two-dimensional and focused on painting, her studio practice has expanded to include three-dimensional works and installations in which organic forms spillover into architectural space, creating a tension between the organic and the man-made. The prevalence of unnatural hues invite the viewer to consider whether they originate from man or nature. Deyling will discuss the development of her work and its evolution over the past ten years. This lecture is appropriate for students, faculty and anyone who is interested in contemporary art and the creative process.
