The Cardiologist's Wife - Reviews The Juice Cafe
Dec 09, 2015

If you are looking for a healthier alternative for a quick meal, stop in at The Juice Cafe on South Main Street just before the overpass. Having worked in the medical field, owner Vanessa McQuay has seen the results of poor eating habits first hand. Because she wanted to learn more about better nutritional health, Vanessa attended the Institute of Integrated Nutrition, an online nutrition school. Vanessa decided to open The Juice Cafe as a way to offer a great tasting option for those looking for something better than typical fried fast food.

Barry and I gave it a try on Saturday and couldn’t have been more pleased. We ordered the apple walnut salad, the butternut squash soup and the chicken salad croissant plus the Buttercup smoothie made with chocolate almond milk, peanut butter and bananas. Everything was freshly prepared and delicious. For those who like it hot, the butternut squash soup was very spicy. There are several other soups, sandwiches and salads on the menu. Barry and I liked that the menu explains the nutritional benefits of several of the fruits and vegetables used in the smoothies and juices so you are getting a little education with your food.

The Juice Cafe also offers fresh juices which can be a good way to squeeze some fruits and vegetables into your diet. While doctors caution that juicing alone doesn’t offer all the nutrition, protein and fiber you need, it’s a great way to get important nutrients from vegetables and fruits you normally don’t eat. There are also several smoothies to chose from that incorporate fruits and vegetables such as the Green Gorilla with pineapple, kale, spinach, pear, apple and coconut milk. Vegetarians and those looking for gluten free meals will easily find something to please on the menu.

The Juice Cafe is open Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. so you can pick up a muffin, some Gearhead coffee or a breakfast smoothie in addition to lunch, mid afternoon snack or a light dinner. As if all that isn’t enough, the decor is bright and inviting. The mezzanine upstairs would be a great place to sit and study or have a quiet meeting.

Stop by soon and enjoy a smoothie or have lunch with a friend. Take a break from all the holiday madness and excess and do something good for yourself. I know we will be back.
