Presidential Search Advisory Committee receives first applications
Sep 03, 2010

During the first week of advertising for candidates, the Presidential Search Advisory Committee received two applications and supporting materials.  The first two applicants are:

-- Dr. Yatish T. Shah, provost and chief operating officer, Norfolk State University, Norfolk, Va.

-- Dr. Joe G. Delap, associate vice president for academic affairs and professor, Jacksonville State University, Jacksonville, Ala.

Beginning today, a list of the individuals who have submitted applications during the previous week will be announced each Friday.

At its next meeting, the Presidential Search Advisory Committee will review the first set of applications.  The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 30.  After convening the meeting in public, the committee will go into executive session to review the background and qualifications of each candidate.  All members of the committee, along with the faculty delegates, signed a confidentiality agreement at the Aug. 26 meeting to ensure that their discussions will not be shared outside the meeting.  This procedure was established to protect the candidates.

Mrs. Florine Tousant Milligan, chair of the committee and chair of the ASU Board of Trustees, has said the committee is serving as an important resource to the Board of Trustees, which will make the final selection of a new president for Arkansas State University.

Information on submitting a nomination as well as the application process is available on the Arkansas State University Presidential Search website,http://presidentialsearch.asusystem.edu.  With committee input, the university placed a position announcement in The Chronicle of Higher Education edition that is dated today, and it also appears in the online edition of the weekly, nationally-circulated publication.  The advertisement will be repeated in the Sept. 10 edition.  The ad directs candidates to the presidential search website for details about the ASU System, a job description, and desired qualifications and characteristics of a new president.  Applications will be accepted until the position is filled, but interested individuals are encouraged to submit applications by Oct. 15.

The website also includes the institutional profile, position announcement, search advisory committee members, a biography of consultant Dr. Tom Meredith, timeline for the selection process, and a news and announcements page.
