 OPTUS EMPLOYEES RAISE $1,500 FOR ARKANSAS CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL Mark Duckworth, President and CEO of Optus, presented a check for $1,500 to Kim Montez with Arkansas Children’s Hospital on Tuesday, August 24. Arkansas Children’s Hospital is one of the Optus employee selected charities chosen for fundraising in 2010. Over the past 6 months, several events were held to raise money including a chili/soup cook off, a homemade ice cream contest, dessert sales, a drawing for a day off with pay, the option of wearing blue jeans for a $5 donation, and the sale of excess office equipment and furniture. All of the funds were raised through the participation of Optus employees. Excess office items were sold in silent auction format. Hopeful bidders lined up and watched the bid sheets as time ticked down to make sure they had placed the highest bid at the close of the auction. Some of the items that brought in the largest donations were television sets, fiberglass ladders, bookshelves and cell phones. One employee purchased a TV for $125. When asked why he was willing to give so much for a used item, he explained that he was glad to because he knew it would benefit the families served by ACH. “I have been a patient there before,” commented Jasper Jaynes. “I’ve seen firsthand what they do for people, and I know without a doubt that they will put our money to good use.” Several employees chipped in after the grand total came in just shy of the $1,500 goal. “When the fundraising was over, we realized that we were $15.70 away from our goal. All it took was an email to our employees, and the remaining money was donated within minutes,” said Lori Smith, Human Resource Manager. “We are fortunate to have a wonderful group of employees at Optus who are always willing to give to others.
