Jonesboro Occasions - October 2011
Oct 05, 2011

The October issue of Occasions is our annual Women’s Issue. Inside, we highlighted many great, active women in our community, many of whom are focused on breast cancer awareness. The issue begins with a cover story on Jonesboro’s inaugural Walk to Cure Diabetes, which will be held on Oct. 15 and will begin in Downtown Jonesboro. Type 1 diabetes has greatly affected each of their families, which is why Steve and Virginia Cox, as well as their Northeast Arkansas Walk corporate co-chairmen, Anthony and Kimberly Minton, are spearheading an effort to bring a Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to Northeast Arkansas.

A special eight-page pull-out section in the October issue is a Think Local Holiday Shopping and Savings Guide. Jonesboro Occasions and Think Local are excited to present this opportunity to the local community. Twenty-nine Think Local businesses have joined together to bring you great holiday coupons and opportunities to save, and if you meet the requirements, you’ll be entered to win a $1,400 Think Local shopping spree. The deadline to enter is Nov. 6, so pick up the October issue of Occasions today so that you have a chance to save and win.

Also in this issue, we are pleased to present a special section on the St. Bernards Health & Wellness Institute that is scheduled to open its doors on Oct. 26. From the leaders of the project to the inside scoop about the institute’s saltwater pools, eco-friendly spin classes, Senses Spa, Jonesboro Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine’s new office, the Café on the Mile, Kids Club and so much more, we have all of the details about how St. Bernards’ newest endeavor will help improve the overall fitness of our community.

This issue also features: a story on Jenny Rogers’ fashionable business venture with Vintage Couture; a look at Sue Holmes’ Just Like You, a local bra boutique that works exclusively with breast cancer survivors; a story about Casting for Recovery, a wonderful non-profit program that allows breast cancer survivors to learn how to fly fish while promoting mind and body wellness; a story about the 2011 Signature Chefs Auction to benefit the March of Dimes; and an introduction to Broadway stars Matt Cavenaugh and Jenny Powers, who will be in Jonesboro this month for a Delta Symphony Orchestra concert. And you know you can always count on Occasions for our Datebook and our Dining Guide.

September was a very busy month in Jonesboro, so our October issue has event photos from the Big Great A-State Tailgate, the Arkansas State Lettermen’s Club annual banquet, the Jonesboro Occasions 8th Anniversary Art Invitational, the Salutation Nation Community Yoga Class, Justin Ladd’s Teal Toes event, St. Bernards Development Foundation’s Day of Celebration and Remembrance, Sara Howell’s Summer Show, the Kickoff Reception for United Way Week, the Jonesboro Women’s Conference, Michael Ethridge’s Art Show, the Sissy’s Log Cabin Groundbreaking, the Think Local Logo Unveiling and Elizabeth Hubbard Designs’ Fall Show.
