Thanksgiving Commandments From The Cardiologist's Wife
Nov 23, 2011

What is life without a little humor? However, sometimes humor has more than a kernel of truth in it so hopefully the following commandments will provide a laugh and some guidance for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Thou shalt have a good time in spite of all the relatives gathered under one roof. Just have another glass of wine or a martini and smile while Grandma points out that thee have put on weight, not found a job or married yet. She’s not getting any younger, could work on her manners and is probably lonely.

Thou shalt not drink too much and make a nuisance of thyself in spite of the above statement.

Thou shalt exercise some every day of the long holiday weekend. Think of it as escape from the relatives. It will help relieve stress and bring a minute’s peace of mind, right up till thee walk back into the house.

Thou shalt not eat like a starving hog at the trough. If your plate resembles Mt. Everest, perhaps thee should remember that many people die on Everest.

Thou shalt take the time to enjoy the food lovingly prepared and served.

Thou shalt even indulge but just a little. Remember Mt. Everest.

Thou shalt eat some healthy food and drink plenty of water so that thy digestive system doesn’t rebel in unpleasant ways.

Thou shalt help out around the house to relieve the busy cook. Set the table, clean up afterwards, take out the trash, sweep the floors and clean the bathroom.

Thou shalt not park thy butt on the sofa and watch 10 hours of football while gobbling thy food. Be sociable and talk to people. Thee might not see them again.

Thou shalt consider inviting someone who might be alone on Thanksgiving, or new to this country. This is a time to share.

Above all, thou shalt remember all thy blessings and be truly thankful. That is the true purpose of the holiday, not the shopping and the football.

Have a happy, healthy Thanksgiving!
