Little Hands Craft for Spring
Mar 20, 2012

Today is the Spring Solstice, also known as the very first day of Spring! I have tilled and planted my vegetable and herb garden, and I helped the girls do a little flower gardening of their own. Our yard already had some beautiful flowers, but I planted a few more and feared for their safety. One of my girls' most cherished past times is picking flowers. So, I prudently bought a cheap box of mixed wildflower seeds. I soaked a paper towel and wrung it out so it wasn't dripping but quite damp, and poured the seeds onto it. I then folded it over and put it into a ziplock bag and left it in full sun outside. This forced the seeds to sprout faster, so when the girls planted them, there were already green sprouts coming from them. Children aren't exactly patient, so this was perfect because within two days, we had green little sprigs sticking out of the potting soil.

Plus, any little girl knows that your flowers grow better and faster with the help of fairies. We have a really beautiful red maple tree in our front yard. The bottom is covered in moss, and I knew as soon as we moved in that it would be a perfect place for a fairy door. So we went to Hobby Lobby and picked out our favorite, cut it down a bit, and sanded it smooth again. Then we stained it with some wood stain we already had from refinishing our dining room table, and painted the rest. We went rock hunting and gathered moss from the back of our house, and glued them around the door. It's perfect! We screwed it into a place in the front where the kids that pass our house each day for their bus stop could see it and add a little fun to their day.

We hope you enjoy this beautiful Spring day and enjoy the outdoors!

Until next time,
Heather
