Little Hands Get Ready for Easter with Resurrection Eggs
Mar 27, 2012

Easter is nearing! April 8th to be exact, and that means we have less than two weeks left to prepare! Easter baskets are fun, of course, and I'm using the especially cute ones I decorated and shared with you all last year. However, candy filled eggs and large bunnies aren't what this holiday is all about. In an attempt to find a way to prepare the hearts of my little ones as we near the big day, I found myself searching the bookstores. I found a fun book about all the lovely things that come along with Easter, but explains that the best thing about the holiday was Jesus. We have been reading the book during the bedtime routine and a little from the Jesus Storybook Bible.

However, I still wished we had something more. Something a little more tangible and hands on. I was so excited when my prayers were answered last week by a pop in visit from my husband's aunt when she came to drop off several activities and craft things that her kids had outgrown. Among these were something called Resurrection Eggs. I'd never heard of them, but once I went through them, I fell in love and thought of how easy they would be to make as a family craft. In an egg carton, there are 12 plastic eggs. Inside each different colored egg is something to tell the story of Jesus' death and resurrection. For instance, a piece of gauze to symbolize the linen he was wrapped in and a heavy rock to symbolize the heavy stone before the tomb where in two. I quickly went through them with London trying to tell the story in a way a barely 3 year old could understand, but I didn't have much hope of her retaining it. The next day, she asked to look at them again and started naming off things inside some and what they symbolized! I was amazed an knew it was because it was a story she was able to see and hold in her hand. I wanted to share in case there were others wanting to prepare the hearts of their children but didn't know how to go about it. What do you do as a family to prepare for Easter? With our kids so young, we're still trying out new traditions and would love some suggestions!

Until next time,
Heather
