A-State Football Signs Former SuperPrep All-America Oku

Arkansas State head football coach Gus Malzahn announced Wednesday that David Oku,the nation's No. 1 rated all-purpose back in the 2009 class by Rivals.com, has signed with the Red Wolves and enrolled in classes at ASU. The Midwest City, Okla., native played his freshman and sophomore seasons at Tennessee after completing a stellar high school career that saw him earn SuperPrep All-America honors as a running back at Carl Albert High School. Oku was tabbed as one of the top 100 overall recruits in the country by Rivals.com and also included in the "ESPN?150" list as one of the nation's top players following his senior season in 2008.

As a true freshman at Tennessee, Oku set school records for both kickoff returns (33) and kickoff return yards (863) for a single season. He averaged 26.2 yards per return to rank second among SEC freshman and fourth among major college freshmen. He posted a career-high 149 return yards against Ole Miss and also topped the 100-yard mark with 122 against Memphis.

The 5-9, 210-pound Oku led Tennessee in kickoff returns as a sophomore as well, recording 312 yards on 16 attempts for a 19.5 yard average per return. He finished his two-year career with the Volunteers with 1,175 kickoff return yards.
