Out of the Dark School Chapters to implement strategic planning for 2013.
Jan 10, 2013
January 10, 2013 - (Jonesboro, AR) - Out of the Dark Inc. has retained the services of Dr. David Saarnio, Director for the Center for Community Engagement at Arkansas State University, to conduct strategic planning meetings this month to prepare for the upcoming school year. The first meeting is scheduled for January 17, 2013 from 8:30 am to 11:30 am at the First Christian Church located at 2600 Woodsprings Road, Jonesboro, Arkansas.

“We are so proud that ASU and the Craighead County Community Foundation have stepped up to help us organize our Out of the Dark School Chapters (ODSC) for 2013”, said Skip Mooney, Jr., founder of the Out of the Dark Movement. “There is no other leadership/prevention youth program in the country like ours. While other groups are scrambling around trying to figure out how to solve chemical addiction issues, we have been proactive in building one of the strongest youth forces in the United States to stop the spread of drug addiction. This is something that everybody Northeast Arkansas can be proud of because we have created real solutions to a national epidemic.”

The Out of the Dark School Chapter program was created in spring of 2009 through an informal partnership that Mooney established with the superintendents for each of the 8 public school districts in Craighead County, Arkansas. The program was formally established in April of 2009 with a community fundraising event at the ASU Convo Center that raised over $10,000.00 as startup funds for the program. What started with a few students and school sponsors now include over 1,000 students and sponsors from every public school district, with some districts having multiple chapters. The Chapters are networked through the Out of the Dark School Chapter Committee (ODSCC) and community oversight is provided by the Education Sector Committee of the Craighead Out of the Dark Coalition (CODC) by the utilizing the “Local Level Up” community model.

The ODSC program activities are supported by private funding and through donations from other organizations in Northeast Arkansas. Donations can be made online or by mail to 407 Union Ave., Jonesboro, Arkansas 72403.
