Red Wolves Sign Former Utah State Quarterback
Apr 26, 2013

Arkansas State head football coach Bryan Harsin announced Friday that Adam Kennedy, a 6-5, 219-pound quarterback who played the last two seasons at Utah State, has signed with the Red Wolves and will be eligible for the 2013 season.

Kennedy earned his most playing time at Utah State during his 2011 sophomore campaign when he threw for 972 yards and 11 touchdowns in eight games while leading the Aggies to an appearance in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. He started the final five games of the season, helping USU to a 4-1 record in those outings.

Kennedy completed 72-of-105 passing attempts over the final six games and posted a passing efficiency rating of 169.04, a mark that would have led the WAC and ranked seventh in the FBS if he met the minimum participation requirement of 75 percent. All 11 of Kennedy’s touchdown passes came over the Aggies last six games, a span that also saw him average 168.3 passing yards and 42.7 yards rushing per game. He was named the WAC Offensive Player of the Week by College Sports Madness and a College Football Performance Awards Honorable Mention National Quarterback of the Week after he threw three touchdown passes to lead Utah State to a come-from-behind 24-21 win at New Mexico State.

Kennedy, who threw for a season-high 255 yards against San Jose State, ended the 2011 season third on the team in total offense with 1,211 yards (151.4 ypg). In addition to his 972 passing yards, he added another 239 yards on the ground on 55 rushing attempts.

Kennedy completed his only pass attempt in two games played during his junior campaign while serving as a reserve behind All-Western Athletic Conference quarterback Chuckie Keeton, who ranked 17th in the nation in total offense.

The Elk Grove, Calif., native transferred to Utah State after earning first team All-Valley Conference honors as a freshman quarterback at San Joaquin Delta College.

The Mustangs’ 2010 MVP led the squad to a 7-3 record, including a 4-1 mark in league play for a co-North Division Conference championship, and the Associated Student Body Government (ASBG) Bowl Game.

Kennedy threw for 1,767 yards in 10 games (176.7 ypg) on 153-of-236 passing (.648) with 15 touchdowns and eight interceptions, compiling an efficiency rating of 141.9. His 64.8 completion percentage ranked sixth in the California Community College Athletic Association, and he also ranked 15th in passing efficiency and 21st in total offense (213.5 ypg). Kennedy also had 368 rushing yards on 106 attempts (3.5 ypr) with four touchdowns.

Kennedy was a first team All-Delta Valley Conference honoree at Franklin (Calif.) High School, throwing for 1,109 yards in 10 games with eight touchdowns. He rushed for 413 yards on 94 carries (4.4 ypr) with five touchdowns as well.
