The Cardiologist's Wife Makes Peanut Butter Dog Treats
Aug 13, 2014

If you want your dog to think you’re the most wonderful person in the whole world, mix up a batch of these peanut butter dog treats. My dog, Molly, is pretty picky when it comes to store bought dog treats; she sniffs them politely then looks sorry but she just won’t eat them, so when I saw this recipe on Pinterest, I decided to give it a try.

I tested the biscuits on eight dogs, three being picky eaters. All eight dogs thought these were the best thing they’d ever had and begged for more. These treats are super easy to make, and kids would enjoy making them. You could put these treats in cute bags to give at Christmas or as a gift if someone gets a new pet. They keep about a week to 10 days in an airtight container. Whatever treats you give your pets, don’t overdo it. Too many treats can cause an upset stomach or lead to unhealthy weight gain.

INGREDIENTS: 1 cup whole wheat flour 3/4 cup uncooked oats 1/4 cup peanut butter, natural with less sugar and salt is best 1/2 cup water 1/4 cup canola 2 Tbsp. honey 1 tsp. baking powder DIRECTIONS: Heat oven to 350ºF. Mix dry ingredients in a medium sized bowl. Mix wet ingredients and add to dry ingredients. Stir until well- combined. Add a bit more flour if dough is too sticky to handle. Turn out dough on a lightly floured surface and roll or pat out to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut shapes with small cookie cutters and place on a cookie sheet that has been lightly sprayed with baking spray. Bake 18 to 20 minutes till lightly browned. For a crunchier treat, turn off oven and leave biscuits in oven for 60 minutes after the normal baking time. The dogs tested liked them both ways.
